The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is always worth a couple of laughs. What am I saying? Make that laughs, laughs and some more laughs. All kinds of laughs — happy laugh, squeaky laugh, rotten laugh, boisterous laugh — oh I could go on, but then I’d be giving competition to the online bookstore, uread.com classification system.
But hey, back to the point. When game designer Jeff Kinney started the …Wimpy Kid series, everyone knew it was going to be a hoot. And it was. It was a tear jerking laugh a minute book. And when the fifth book, "The Ugly Truth" found its way into markets, I made sure that I was the first person on the online bookstore to purchase it. (Alright, I don’t queue outside a bookstore anymore, but I do keep hitting the refresh button from time to time to see if the book is up or not. Something’s never change.)
And with "The Ugly Truth", Kinney has taken the sequentially illustrated diary entries of Greg Heffley to an altogether different place. The middle school boy’s ‘id’ has been wonderfully broken down into the layers that they are and it has been given a lemon twist — just so that we could get all hysterical about it.
Every single page is a killer. I think with "The Ugly Truth", I could actually use the phrase, "Amused to Death" (apologies to Roger Waters).
This is one of the finest books ever and it has to be read to be understood. Simple as that. So stop reading whatever I have been writing and get to the online bookstore uread.com and grab your copy. And in case you are yet to read the earlier four of the series, get them too. Relax, its worth the price you pay… (and knowing uread.com, they might even throw in a good discount).
Buy, read. Buy, read. That’s ‘The Ugly Truth’.
