Stieg Larsson’s entire Millennium Trilogy is one of the best books that I had ever read. The first one in the series, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo had taken me and several other readers around the world by storm and it is no doubt that I, along with the rest of the world, were eagerly awaiting the coming of this masterpiece. And when The Girl Who Played With Fire was released, I am sure that I was one of the first persons to get this book of an online bookstore, like www.uread.com.
Because like we had seen with the earlier book (and went on to see with the future editions of this book series), The Girl Who Played with Fire, very beautifully converts a matter of great social importance into one of the best woven tales of fiction. The characters of LisbethSalander and Mikael Blomkvist cut through all the social tension and allows the reader to sit back and jump onto a roller coaster ride.
Now I know, we purists have that constant fear about translated literature, but this is one case where I think the matter was delivered with as much an equal force as the original. It is really sad that such a talented novelist as Stieg Larsson got most of his critical and popular acclaim posthumously. Life certainly is cruel to someone who died so young.
Of all the books in the series, this one strikes me as the most politically stagnant one and in this case, this little factor does wonders for the whole book. It puts forward the author’s viewpoint on the subject in such a phantasmagorical manner than it almost gets too close for comfort. And when it is the case with books like this, such a factor goes a long way to make it a very impressive read.
My recommendation would still be to go through all the books sequentially, so that characters are better realized and recognized. In cases of series books, this goes a long way to establish the raw power such books convey.
My verdict: READ!
